Mudgeeraba Toddler Child Care
Our Mudgeeraba Montessori classrooms for toddlers safely supports your child’s drive to do things alone, developing confidence and a sense of competence.
The Montessori toddler environment is language-rich, with adults using proper speech rather than baby talk so that the children are exposed to and develop a broad vocabulary.

In this learning environment, children work independently, observe others, explore freely, and express their curiosity and creativity. A self-care area fosters toilet awareness and independence in maintaining personal hygiene (such as learning how to wipe one’s nose and wash hands independently).
There is also an area for gross motor activities to help children coordinate their movements, and low tables that enable them to help prepare, serve, eat, and clean up their snacks and meals.

Montessori Toddler classrooms are foremost designed to promote independence, concentration, and a sense of order.
Our Toddler rooms in both Mudgeeraba and Reedy Creek are designed to give our younger children the opportunity to work within a prepared environment where “me do it!” is our goal for the children.
The furniture is fit to the proper proportions for children to use (e.g., tables and chairs, shelves even the kitchen sink!). There is a place for everything, and everything has its place.
Young children, especially, need the reliability and consistency of knowing where materials are located, and where to find what they need.
Children build a cognitive map of the environment as a whole and the individual materials in particular, which guides their daily actions within the environment.
2 years to 3 years
In our Van Gogh and Strauss rooms, there is not an excess of decoration or hanging objects, as these only serve as a distraction. There are a variety of activities that interest and challenge your children.
The teachers carefully and frequently observe the children in order to decide when materials need to be removed, replaced, or extended upon. Materials increase in challenge as children become older and more capable.
They need to meet the child's needs, which change with each developmental stage. Less is more in a Montessori classroom because repetition leads to the development of focus.
During our time as a 2 year old we continue to hone our practical life skills, continue to explore through our sensorial activities and of course toilet train! Exploration turns to understanding as we grow into 3 year olds and prepare to join our peers in our Cycle 1 classes.
Help Me Learn To Do It Myself
One of the greatest benefits of the Montessori Method, particularly during the early learning experience, is the focus on hands-on learning.
The emphasis is on concrete, rather than abstract learning, as toddlers work on activities that are focused on teaching them language and practical life lessons.
Teachers encourage students to concentrate on tasks independently. For children aged 15 months - 3 years this reduces the tensions between children not yet communicating vocally.
Children in this age are given the time and guidance to explore and work with activities that are suited to their developmental need and desire to do it for themselves.Whether your child has been part of our community for a while or is only just joining us, the benefits of the Montessori method will become more apparent as your child continues through their educational journey.
Grace & Courtesy
Grace and Courtesy lessons are essentially teaching the children what it means to be polite and how to appropriately communicate his or her feelings. Lessons are often demonstrated at circle time through role-play demonstrations given by the teacher and students who are willing to demonstrate their etiquette (the children are always very entertained by these lessons!)
Some examples of Grace and Courtesy lessons might be:
-
Greeting someone
-
Welcoming a visitor
-
How to shake hands
-
Serving food
-
Standing in a line
-
Choosing a work
-
Walking in the classroom
-
Using quiet voices
-
Using materials appropriately
-
Hanging up coats & backpacks
-
Sitting at the line
-
Toilet Training
Practical Life
The Practical Life component of the Montessori approach is the link between the child's home environment and the classroom.
The child's desire to seek order and independence finds expression through the use of a variety of materials and activities which support the development of fine motor as well as other learning skills needed to advance to the more complex Montessori equipment.
The practical life materials involve the children in precise movements which challenge them to concentrate, to work at their own pace uninterrupted, and to complete a cycle of work which typically results in the feelings of satisfaction and confidence.
Practical life encompasses four main areas: Control of Movement, Care of Person, Care of Environment, and Grace and Courtesy.
Toddlers Development
Our Montessori Toddler curriculum centres around practical life exercises, sensorial experiences, language, math and cultural studies.
The toddlers learn concentration, coordination, language skills, responsibility and respect—all of which prepare them for their ongoing learning journey. Music and art are part of the program. Children in this room are encouraged to 'do it for themselves' giving them an intrinsic sense of accomplishment and the motivation to continue their attempts to master a task.

With the proper guidance and support your child will quickly learn how to accomplish tasks that foster independence and to work with others with grace and courtesy. Our environment is filled with inviting materials, child-sized furniture and loving and skilled teachers, creating a place in which each child’s natural abilities can unfold.
